
Master of Science in Agronomy
Master of Science in Agronomy or MSc in Agronomy is a postgraduate programme which deals with the study of crops and the soils in which they grow. It is a two-year programme, divided into four semesters in which one learns about the basic concepts in the field of agriculture. The agronomy degree at Baba Farid Institute of Technology is affiliated to HNB Gharwal Central University.
A Master of Science in Agronomy provides graduates with a thorough knowledge and understanding of how agricultural productivity can improve food security and assist human beings with the ability to methodize more efficient food production procedures. The subjects studied under the agriculture studies degree include concepts like crop production, physiology of drought, herbicides, irrigation agronomy, advanced irrigation agronomy, advanced crop ecology, arid zone agronomy, agro-metrology, cropping and farming systems, crop yields, the principle of croup nutrition etc. The course helps students to gain knowledge of animal and plants organisms, their functions, inter dependencies, cell functions and their interactions with each other and the environment.
We here at BFTI through masters in agronomy teach our students to improve agriculture productivity, manage products and contribute to the future development of the sector through research activities.The course teaches them the proper ways to communicate with the public, farmers and fellow scientists through a wide range of methods. With an increase in the need for new ways for improving sustainable agricultural practices, the discipline is fast gaining popularity in the country, in both government and private sectors.The course curriculum of master’s degree in agronomy trains students through both theoretical and practical knowledge so that they can conduct research in crop rotation, irrigation and drainage, plant breeding, soil classification, soil fertility, weed control, and other areas. We make sure that through our course we can help our students in combining research with in-depth instruction in climatology, genetics, biochemistry, physiology and plant breeding so that they can easily translate their studies into results.
ELIGIBILITY
- To be eligible to get admission in this course, candidates must have completed bachelors degree from a recognized university with min 50% marks and min 45% for SC or ST candidates.
- Candidates who have given the final year examination and waiting for their result, they are also eligible to apply for the course. However; they will have to submit their final degree result before the admission procedure ends.
CAREER SCOPE
Completing a master’s degree in agronomy can directly benefit graduates by promoting the acquisition of useful skills in a wide range of careers. Students after completing agriculture studies can work in both the public and private sector. The various fields in which one can work are:
- Agricultural Engineering: This sector involves improving agricultural machinery, power, soil and water conservation, agriculture and farm structures. There are lots of job opportunities in this sector for engineering graduates.
- Agro-Industry Sector: This sector involves dairy processing, grain processing, fats and oils, production, fibers, pesticides, meat packing, fertilizer, and food processing. Graduates of agriculture study can work as a researcher, engineers, sales and promotion, technologists, scientists, as well as in production.
- Agriculture Management: Graduates must know about management and agriculture. They can work in estates and tea gardens.
- Corporations: Agriculturists from this sector can seek employment in Warehousing Corporation and Food Corporation, State Farm Corporation and National Seed Corporation.
- Estates and tea gardens: There are many employment opportunities available in estates and tea gardens with reasonable remuneration.
- Self-employment: After completing agriculture degree and with some experience one can start his/her own business such as agriculture product shops, agriculture firms and arginine industry.
- Services Sector: This sector involves the use of the adequate supply of fertilizers, seeds and chemicals at a reasonable price and also to provide quality food products.

B) On the date of scheduled joining time the student shall report at the venue on time, wherein briefing of the institute, rules and regulations etc. shall be given to the students. The students should carry the following documents along with the following certificates in original for verification:
- 8 passport size photographs.
- TC & Migration Certificate.
- Character certificate from the last school attended.
- 10th class mark sheet & passing certificate.
- 12th class mark sheet & passing certificate.
- Graduation mark sheet & passing certificate.

- Domicile Certificate
- 3 sets of photocopies of all the above documents.
- Copies of extracurricular/sports or any other major achievement has done on basis of which additional consideration is being made.
